Socialist shibboleths should give way to far reaching political and economic reforms in France

Apart from her appearance, it’s Royal’s promise to bring about a substantial change in the way politics is conducted in France, which is adding to her charm. But for a country with strong Socialist roots, the dilemma is – will the French public accept far reaching political and economic reforms? So the biggest challenge for Royal will be to sell her reform package in such a manner that least amount of friction is generated. On the economic front the image and performance of France has suffered because of its rigid adherence to labour laws and the almost religious ’35 hours a week’ work schedule.
