Mother Dairy’s portfolio comprised only liquid milk; then the brand started stacking up what its rivals offered

Whatever be the case, the Indian co-operative movement, initiated across sectors as the balancing act between private and public sectors, has received another major leg-up with galloping ambitions and aspirations of Mother Dairy and Amul.

Cooperatives are a great way in which the Indian farmer (who de facto owns a cooperative) can take a bow on the global stage. But globalization and liberalisation had taken some of the sheen away. Now if two birds of the same dairy cooperative feather have a little competitive match, and in the process, race ahead of the multinats, acquiring billion dollar dimensions, so much the better for those farmers!
